Not wanting to live

Does talking help?
If you have suicidal thoughts you should talk to someone, someone you can trust. That might be someone you know or a person on a support line. You might also need professional help to feel better. Talking to others can help you get new perspectives. You might need help to keep going, by someone who will listen and see things from a different point of view. There might be a lot of people around you who want to help, even if it doesn’t feel like it. If you feel like all hope is gone and that you have lost the power over your life, suicide might feel like a solution. Committing suicide could feel like taking the power back. It might feel like a solution, but it is the opposite, the chances for change would be gone forever.
How do suicidal thoughts work?
When you have suicidal thoughts it’s common to feel like all hope is gone, that nothing can get better and that life has no meaning. Even if that isn’t necessarily true, you can be convinced that that’s the case. Your brain is affected in the same way as if it was real. That’s why suicidal thoughts can feel very convincing. Thinking about suicide might feel like a relief in the moment, like you get a break from your problems. At the same time, it might feel wrong, shameful and increase your anxiety. That’s because those thoughts challenge our beliefs about what we should think or feel. We are expected to live happy, successful lives, not be thinking about ending it. That might be hard to live up to when you’re not feeling good. Having suicidal thoughts might make you distance yourself from others and make you feel lonely.
When should I get help?
If you have severe suicidal thoughts, do not hesitate to get professional help. Contact your local healthcare center or psychiatric clinic. Don’t be afraid to ask someone to come with you to your appointments. It’s beneficial to seek help as soon as possible. You deserve to, and have the right to get help. If you have severe suicidal thoughts or plans to commit suicide you should get help immediately.
How do I get rid of suicidal thoughts?
If you are thinking about suicide you should talk to someone about it. You might feel alone in your situation, but a lot of people have felt this way and thought about these things. Talking about your problems might help you get new perspectives and see new solutions. When you are alone with your dark thoughts they tend to grow. Talking about your thoughts might help you. As soon as you’ve talked to someone you’re no longer alone. The world is full of people who have lived thinking about suicide but who now live a life free of suicidal thoughts.
