Organisations and emergency centres that can help

In case of acute suicide risk, call the nearest psychiatric centre, emergency unit or the police, 112.

Acute psychological problems

If you have acute psychological problems, you can get help from local adult psychiatric emergency services, which have a clinic in each municipality or city district. These local emergency services are often open until 22:00 hours.

If you’re under 18, you can go to one of BUP’s outpatient clinics during the daytime.

Serious psychological problems

If you’re under 18, you should contact the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service (BUP). If you are 18 years or older, you should contact the adult psychiatry centre. There is a clinic in every municipality and city district. You can book an appointment at the clinic yourself or get there with the help of a referral.

In some parts of the county and the country, there are also youth clinics for people aged 16 and over. These clinics are run jointly by child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry.

Minor psychological problems

For minor psychological problems, such as sleeping difficulties, anxiety, mild depression, or reactions to grief, you should first contact your health centre for help. If necessary, your family doctor can refer you to a psychologist, a psychosocial team at the health centre or an outpatient psychiatric service.
